Carlsbad Half Marathon!

This was it! 7 months of training for this one race. The morning came and I was completely calm. I thought I would be dry heaving out the window the whole way there. I guess I just kept telling myself that I had worked so hard for this and had completed many training runs of 10, 11 and 12 miles. The last mile I relied on adrenaline to get me to the finish.
My mom and dad came over at about 4am. I normally dont get up this early or even run this early and I was not sure what to eat. I figured I needed something to fuel me the 13.1 miles but I was scared to try anything new on race day. I did manage to choke down about a half a piece of dry toast, but that was it. It seemed to be enough for me as it did not upset my stomach during the race. I sipped slowly on some water as we were waiting to be corralled. I think the nerves set in a bit while we were just sitting there waiting, because we did get there pretty early and had some time to kill.

I cant remember all the details since its been a few months but I will do my best.

Mile 1- 9:47
Went out WAY too fast. The energy from everyone just carried you right along. It felt good and after I saw my pace at about 9:04 I tried to slow way down.

Mile 2- 10:09
Trying to settle into my pace. There were some bands playing on some side streets and that was pretty neat.

Mile 3- 10:09
Had a nice downhill slope pace was right on target. I really set a finishing goal for myself but really it was 2:15

Mile 4-  10:08
Im feeling good at this point, this course really had no major hills but the entire course was rolling.

Mile 5- 10:02
I remember heading into a nice headwind at this point and a small long hill. I was depending on some GU being on the course and I couldn't find any at any of the aid stations. It psyched me out mentally for sure!

Mile 6- 10:37
Running is so mental its ridiculous! This is about the turn around point and I had really started letting my head get to me.

Mile 7- 10:23
I start looking forward to seeing the 10 mile marker so that helped get me through even if it was just one more mile. My mom was my rock and if she was not there at this point I probably would have stopped to walk.

Mile 8- 10:50
I think this is really when I hit the wall. It was HOT. I seriously felt defeated. I once again knew the aid station should have GU... nope. Damn. I learned my lesson on that one. Bring it along!

Mile 9- 10:49
I just tried to hang on at this point. I had ran training runs over 3 miles further than this before with no problems. I knew I could do it.

Mile 10- 11:08
A 5k left wooo hoo! I felt like I was being passed in herds.

Mile 11- 10:55
Seeing Ryan and Jaymie out on the course gave me a little spark. I needed to see that familiar face cheering for me when I was so close but almost out of gas.

Mile 12- 10:45
I was throwing water on myself and it gave me little spurts of energy. I knew there was only a little of a mile left so I gave it every last bit I had.

Mile 13- 10:10
I remember this very well. It was a pretty good downhill into the finish along the way the whole street was shaded by huge trees it was actually cool. It was exciting to hear the people up ahead finishing.

Mile 0.1- 1:20
AMAZING! just to cross that line was a feeling I can never describe.. and to be able to do it with my mom was even better.
