Our own little running group!

Today Gail, Jaymie, my mom and I all set off on a 7 mile run together. Jaymie is just getting back into things but of course she is a natural, with all of her past accomplishments. She had only ran 4 miles up into this with just having a 3 month old baby and still held with us and could have pushed the pace way faster I believe. I hope she gets back into it because she could be GOOD! once again! Gail has always been a faster pace runner but usually caps off at 4 miles, so it was a first time for her too. The run went by really fast with all of us gabbing and before we knew it we were being kicked off the carlton oaks golf trail because someone ripped down a sign we did not see.... oh well. it was right at our turn around point and we headed back.
It was one of my first longer distances back into the game but I still dont start training for AFC for another 2-3 weeks. My back was bothering me today but after some advil and some wine it was better lol

Thursday night run

I have totally been in a funk this week. I mean I got the miles in that I wanted but it was pulling teeth to get out there.
Once ryan got home around 7 I headed out. Figured I gave myself 45 minutes to run my 4 miles. I just ran around the neighborhood and felt good.

Monday Blahs..

I just could not get up this morning for the life of me. It may have been the fact yesterday was mothers day and Ryan and I celebrated after the kids were in bed with a bottle of wine between the two of us. Yea, I guess you could say it was that. I was not hungover just really sluggish and lazy. I let the whole day go by and finally about 4pm I kicked my own butt and forced myself up to hit the treadmill. I did a nice easy 4 miles. I set the pace at 10:00 for the first 3 miles then did intervals 1 min on at 8:30 pace and 2 minutes off back at warmup pace (10:00) Felt pretty good it just was not how I normally get to workout in peace since the kids are usually napping at that time. This time it was much after and they were playing around me asking 6 million questions.

San Diego River Run 5k

This was kinda a last minute idea I had. I have been itching to run another race so I saw this was local and didn't have a eye gouging registration fee so I signed up. I was up early before the fam, downed some tri-phase and got my gear ready, did some light stretching and we were out the door.  It was fun and a fast course right on the riverbed running past my parents backyard. The winner of the race ran it in 16 minutes and it was my god brother Dillon Breen.
I have been taking some extra rest and am just about to get into my 16 week training plan for the AFC but I still did really well. I set a PR for myself beating my previous 5k time by 6 minutes. I ran 24:11 according to my garmin. The clock said 24:04.

Mile 1- 7:52
Its only a 5k so its go out hard and try to hold on. haha I just wanted to keep my pace at about 8:45 for all 3 miles but I did a lot better than that. I guess I still do have SOME of my speed in me. I actually cant wait to test it out again in a few months.

Mile 2- 8:07
I was still holding on good. I saw a girl about my age pass me so I just held on and would not let her go. Then passed her up again in the final half mile.

Mile 3- 8:14
3 miles is nothing... I may not be the fastest but after training for half marathons I feel like 3 miles is over so fast. I am very happy for a new PR.

La Jolla Half Marathon

April 17, 2011 -
Friday afternoon Ryan and I headed out to La Jolla for the expo, to pick up my shirt, bib and timing chip. What a lame expo it was. Seriously 5 booths and they gave us lousy cotton t-shirts. Kinda bummed on that but oh well. We got to go out to eat a nice carbo loading lunch at lotsa pasta. It was nice just being able to visit and not doing 6 other things at once to make the kids happy.
The next morning I was up exactly one minute before the alarm went off at 4:30. Got my gear on, my bib attached and as soon as my dad got there to watch the kids we were out the door. This time I was doing the race alone :/ My mom did not sign up for this one but did promise to meet me at the 6 mile mark and get me through the final half. Like I said before I was in much better shape this time and gave myself a goal of 2:10. That would take about 12 minutes of my carlsbad time. I also had started working vitalyte Tri Phase endurance fuel into my workout routines. I am a firm believer in this product and its helped me stay healthy and be able to achieve my peak performance everytime.

Mile 1- 9:44
I promised myself I would not go out too fast this time. When I first started I felt relaxed but my pace was still fast. I just held back a little and was at a perfect pace when I hit the mile marker.

Mile 2- 10:00
Settling into my pace. I wanted to stay under 10:15 the whole race. Although with the hill in mind I was sure I would lose quite a few minutes going up that.

Mile 3- 10:15
Ryan and my mom were at the top of the hill, unfortunately the only time I got to see him. Since it was a point to point course.

Mile 4- 10:15
feeling really good. Heading into torrey pines hill. took a GU roctaine and that gave me the extra energy I needed to fight the hill.

Mile 5- 12:21
Did I mention how freaking steep this hill is? a 420' incline in a little less than a mile long. I did it though so concurring that beast is a prize in itself!

Mile 6- 10:56
So that hill really KILLS your pace. But I knew that its mostly pretty flat with a nice downhill into la jolla shores. Just happy to have reached the top. Im a little out of breath but looking forward to seeing Mom to get me my second wind.

Mile 7- 9:59
I ran into Mom and she jumped in right about 6.5 miles. I cant believe she found me in the mass of people. Thank god I wore a bright pink shirt. Very happy to see her.

Mile 8- 9:49
I liked my pace right here. I grabbed another GU and tried to hang on.

Mile 9- 10:08
I think I caught myself jogging here! had to kick myself in gear. The course was really beautiful and I was looking around and maybe talking too much.

Mile 10- 10:08
Still felt great at this point. I remember smacking the 10 mile marker and cheering because we were almost done. This went by really fast.

Mile 11- 9:36
Really steep downhill into the shores. It brought down your heartrate but it was actually really hard to control your balance here. Cars were coming up the other side of the windy road so that was really dangerous.

Mile 12- 11:02
Damnit! another hill right here at the end. Why are they doing this to me!!! It was about a mile long not as steep but it was a killer to throw at you during the last mile. I hunkered down and my mom had me counting cones to the top to get my mind off it.

Mile 13- 9:14
This is it racing into the finish to the cove. Once we got to the top they kicked my mom off the course since she was not wearing a bib. I sprinted in trying not to eat it on that downhill cobblestone street.

Mile 0.1- 1:01
finished strong and happy with my time. I was 2 minutes off my goal but its defiantly within reach at the AFC in august.

MUD RUN!

March 20, 2011

Now this was FUN! At this point im in pretty good shape. After taking some time off after carlsbad I wanted to get a better time at La jolla and not die during the race. :) So I got a treadmill and that made all the difference in the world. Getting out there at 5am is most likely not gonna happen with me and this made it easy to hit the treadmill while preslie napped and mason got in his WII time during the day. A win win for everyone.

Back to the Mud run. This was held in rancho san diego at the skyline church. Its a 5k race with oodles of mud pits, slippery slopes (that are NOT a good idea to slide down on your rear!!) Kristin, Gail, Vanessa and I all ran/walked this together and I can say my cheeks seriously hurt from laughing so much. Luckly we got ryan right down in there for some awesome photos. I think this race took us like 59:00 but we didnt do it for a time, just to have fun. I hope they want to do it again next year!!
